NeoCon 2022 Trend Report

As leaders in trend forecasting it is our job to bring to you all the latest and greatest in color, materials and product for commercial interior design. If you haven’t seen our recap of NeoCon 2022 and our Trend Futures exhibition, what are you waiting for? Check it out here.

As much fun as it was to be in the I+S showroom the week of NeoCon, we made sure to sneak away for some time to explore the other floors of theMART. Each showroom and booth presented some incredible design, products and new tech. It’s fascinating to see what’s trending again in color, materials, and motifs. Here’s what we saw.

Berry and Viridian

This color palette was everywhere! From furniture to wall paint. Covering large areas and used in small accents. Rich shades of mulberry and burgundy with undertones of terracotta and clay. These deep warm hues were in every space. And to compliment them was a bold green ranging from viridian to forest to sage. Ochre and blush accents dotted the areas as well. And because every palette needs some neutrals to support it, let’s talk about gray. Despite what we thought, cool grey is very much still relevant. Light to mid tone grays kept the palettes modern and clean.

Cue the Curves

We’ve seen hard lines and sharp corners fade out for a while now. This years show only confirmed that curved pieces and rounded details are going to be prevalent for a while. This was perhaps most evident in furniture. And not just in upholstered pieces but in tables, lighting and accessories as well. Architectural details are favoring circles and arches over squares and rectangles. Textures leaned toward fluted and scalloped constructions. Geometrics are still favored but they’re leaning toward organic and amorphous and away form parallelograms and quadrilaterals.

Wall to Wall

There was not a blank wall to be seen. A designers goal is to create a space that will lift moods and draw attention. There is no better way to do that than with a bold wall featuring a great wallpaper or mural. Like the bold colors and rounded details previously mentioned, we’re seeing the same playful theme happening in wall art. Fun and bold motifs are popping up in the same green ochre and berry colors. There’s a bit of a mid century modern moment happening as well.

Techniques

As far as materials go, things are staying sleek and clean in this post pandemic environment. Also theres still a heavy influence on the stainablility story. Colorful and translucent acrylics and recycled felt stuck out the most. We saw how these materials were applied in spaces to create eye catching art pieces and architectural details. The recycled felt seen in multiple showrooms provided a subtle texture that didn’t look too cluttered or distracting. As mentioned earlier we’re seeing a lot of modern fluted textures as well some some great woven tecniques (hello Interwoven!)
