BDNY 2021 Trend Report Back

Our Associate Designer, Bethany Rudolf and Designer & Marketing Coordinator, Julie Eck, attended this year’s Boutique Design New York (BDNY), a leading trade fair for hospitality’s boutique and lifestyle design community. From beautiful displays to intellectual conferences, it was a pleasure to be able to see the industry come together again! Below are three of the most prominent trends spotted at the show: 1. Industrial Aesthetic Adopts High Style, 2. Ahead of The Curve, and 3. Intense Textures.

1. Industrial Aesthetic Adopts High Style

Sleek, yet industrial finishes are taking over, especially in the hospitality furniture category. A mix of dark and light tones, black steel finishes and worn, yet refined textures made their mark creating a handsome appeal. A nod to nostalgia was also seen in HVS’s wardrobe interpretation of an old suitcase.

2. Ahead of the Curve

Curved forms & motifs stole the show. Bold, modern accentuated curves were paired with ribbed techniques and asymmetrical layouts across multiple product categories from furniture to textiles.

3. Intense Textures

Textural works that exude confidence were seen all over BDNY. We were drawn to confident paint strokes, expressive splatters and rough spray techniques. We saw heavily layered, dimensional textures paired with soft pastels and brights alike.
